West Chester, Pa. — Bill McSwain, Republican candidate for Governor, distinguished himself among a field of 13 represented gubernatorial candidates, clinching second place in the PA GOP Central Caucus Straw Poll. The strong showing indicates significant support among central Pennsylvanians, as well as his growing momentum across the state, with McSwain overtaking longtime Congressman and 2018 U.S. Senate nominee Lou Barletta, as well as opponents Jake Corman, Doug Mastriano, Charlie Gerow, and Scott Martin, who are all Central PA locals.
McSwain addressed a crowded room of State Committee members ahead of the vote, taking questions from attendees and sharing his vision for a stronger, safer, more secure Pennsylvania:
As Governor, I will restore freedom and law and order. I’ll ensure that every child has a quality education that starts with school choice, and revive our economy by cutting taxes, reducing regulation, and reducing the size of government. I’ll restore election integrity, repeal Act 77, and protect life and the Second Amendment. I will be the Governor who gets the government off your back.
McSwain emphasized his desire to be a Governor for all 67 counties, and promised to protect the individual liberties of all Pennsylvanians. McSwain also highlighted why his history of public service and status as a conservative outsider make him the best candidate to defeat Josh Shapiro and enact the will of the people:
I am a U.S. Marine Corps infantry officer, a federal prosecutor, and a U.S. Attorney appointed by President Trump. I’m a limited government, free market, law and order, constitutional conservative. I am also a political outsider, not a career politician, and public service is in my blood. I am the conservative leader who can defeat Josh Shapiro, and the only candidate who can compete in Shapiro’s back yard. Starting my first day in office, I’ll prioritize promoting the will of the people by working to restore in-person voting and enacting transformative school choice legislation.
The final straw poll results are as follows:
Dave White – 21
Bill McSwain – 17
Lou Barletta – 16
